For implantation animals have to be anesthetized with appropriate anesthetics (e.g. isoflurane or ketamine) for 30 to 45 min. Then the BBB must be allowed to recover for 14 days. To replace the healing dummy with the sampling insert, animals have to be sedated again. The locking wedge healing dummy can be carefully removed from the OFM guide and replaced by the pre-flushed sampling insert. Always use a new locking wedge. As pieces are so small, Joanneum Research recommends using tweezers.
